Message from the CNO/Vice President of Patient Care Services
Mary Beth Reardon, RN, MS, OCN®, NEA-BC
An imaginary golden thread weaves through the four elements of Moffitt’s Nursing Practice Framework. It provides continuity from our organizational model of care, Patient-and-Family-Centered Care, through our Nursing Professional Practice Model, which defines our values and beliefs about professional nursing at Moffitt, to our Care Delivery Systems, how we actually deliver nursing care. These systems are unique to each department, and are based on patient population and acuity. The fourth element, our Shared Governance Structure is the process by which all Moffitt nurses are involved in decision-making relative to clinical practice, professional development, performance improvement/quality outcomes, peer review and nursing research.

Presented above are graphic depictions of our Shared Governance structure and our Professional Practice Model. In both models we place patients and families at the core and the ANA Foundation Documents and the Nurse Practice Act as encompassing our practice overall. Our Shared Governance Structure depicts the councils in which nurses are formally organized to make decisions about clinical practice standards, quality improvement, staff and professional development and research. Our Professional Practice Model represents concepts that describe how our nurses practice, collaborate, communicate and develop professionally. Our nursing values are reflected in the light blue outer circle.
Both models were designed with staff nurse input and approval. These models provide an excellent visual overview of our overarching professional beliefs and our structure for conducting the business of nursing at Moffitt.
